Behind the Scenes: Raising & Training Young Horses in Baja

At Horses by Jose, our horses aren't just animals—they are family. While our seasoned trail horses take great care of our daily guests, there is always exciting work happening behind the scenes with our younger generation!

Meet the Young Ones: Potranco, Deseo, Gavilan & Pasadita

If you’ve been following our ranch updates, you know we have three young horses currently in the early stages of their training journey:

  • Potranco (3 years old)

  • Deseo (2.5 years old)

  • Gavilan (1.5 years old)

  • Pasadita (2.5 years old)

Training a young horse requires immense patience, consistency, and gentle trust-building. Right now, their daily routine focuses on essential ground manners: getting comfortable with a saddle, learning to be bathed and brushed, standing tied calmly, and taking their very first soft steps with a rider in the saddle.

Youth in Action: David (Age 9)

One of the most special sights at the ranch is watching 9-year-old David work alongside these young horses. Through quiet handling and daily care, David plays a key role in building confidence and a strong bond between human and horse. Watching a young rider and a young horse grow up together is what true vaquero culture is all about!
