About the Casita & Location
Q: How far is "The Rider's Retreat" from the ranch?
A: It's a peaceful, 10-minute walk through our friendly and welcoming community. Many of our guests say it's the perfect way to start the morning before a ride and unwind on the way "home."
Q: How many people can the casita accommodate?
A: The casita is a private studio, perfect for one or two people. It features one queen bed and a double futon, so it can accommodate a maximum of three guests if one is comfortable on the futon. (If you would like to book for a larger group let us know - we do have other lodging options)
Q: What amenities are included in the casita?
A: Our casita is designed to be a comfortable, private sanctuary. It includes a full attached bath, an ocean view, and a kitchenette equipped with a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker for light snacks and your morning coffee.
Q: Is the area safe?
A: Absolutely. The casita is located within our small, close-knit community where we live and work. It's a quiet, private area, and our guests have always felt incredibly safe and at home.
Q: What about food? Are there restaurants nearby?
A: Yes! While the kitchenette is perfect for morning coffee and snacks, you are just a short drive from fantastic local food. La Mision has everything from authentic taco shops to wonderful beachfront restaurants. We are happy to give you a list of our personal favorites!
About the Rides & Packages
Q: I'm a total beginner (or I'm nervous about riding). Can I still book a package?
A: Yes! This is our specialty. Many of our guests are beginners, and our core mission is helping people replace fear with confidence. We will pair you with the perfect, gentle horse and our guides will be by your side. The "Solo Sanctuary" or "Couples' Coastal Escape" packages are ideal for new riders.
Q: What if I'm an experienced rider? Will I be bored?
A: Not at all! We designed "The Ranch Immersion" package specifically for you. These are not standard "nose-to-tail" rides. They are extended, custom-guided experiences. We'll explore deep into the valley and, of course, give you plenty of opportunity for those long, freeing gallops on the beach.
Q: What if my partner wants to stay with me but doesn't want to ride?
A: That's a wonderful idea! Please contact us directly. We can create a custom package that includes the 2-person stay and the rides for just one person. Your partner can enjoy the peace of the casita and the ocean view while you're out on the trail.
Q: Can I customize a package or add more rides?
A: Of course. We are a boutique service, not a big hotel. Think of these packages as a starting point. If you want to add a ride or adjust an itinerary, just let us in know when you inquire and we will do our best to create your perfect experience.
Booking & Logistics
Q: How do I book a "Ride & Stay" package?
A: Because these packages are exclusive and very limited, we book them directly. Please click the "Inquire About Availability" button to send us an email with your desired dates, or call us. This allows us to give you personal service and confirm availability.
Q: Can I book the casita without a riding package?
A: Our priority for the casita is always to provide a complete, seamless experience for our riding guests. For this reason, we almost exclusively book the casita as part of our "Ride & Stay" packages.
Q: Do I need a car?
A: You do not need a car. We can help you arrange transportation to and from the border or airport. We are in a rural area so if you would like more freedom to roam, we do recommend a vehicle. A car will give you the freedom to explore our wonderful local restaurants and nearby beaches (besides on horseback!). We are also just a short drive from Rosarito, Ensenada, and the Valle de Guadalupe wine country, which make for perfect day trips.
Q: What is your cancellation policy for packages?
A: Due to the exclusive, limited nature of our packages, we require a 50% deposit to reserve your dates. This deposit is fully refundable if you cancel at least 14 days before your check-in date.

We booked a last minute riding tour with Jose and it was nothing short of amazing! As we drove into La Mision the fog rolled in so we didn’t know what to expect. We ended up being the only two on guided tour which was pretty special. My fiancé had never ridden before and I haven’t been on a horse in over twenty years. Jose made us feel safe and rode with us the whole time. As soon as we got to the beach it was such a vibe. The gray day only added to the mood and Jose let us loose with the horses. We galloped right there on the water and it was epic. If you have the time book this trail ride and you won’t regret it. Can’t wait to return.

The staff was wonderful, so helpful and friendly. The horses were beautiful, riding horseback on the beach was absolutely magical. I got to canter and then my favorite galloping along the waves it was incredible. We are planning to do this annually because we had so much fun. If you want to horseback ride on the beach I recommend Horses by Jose. it was everything I could’ve imagined and more.

Amazing. This is the nicest riding pace I've seen on this continent, and I used to work with horses 🐴 been around the block! Super cool people, well trained, and well treated horses. Nobody in the USA would let me to book a ride without a saddle. We drove 3 hours from Los Angeles, will come back, was smooth sailing. Even my friend that's more of a beginner had his first galop and did very well.
